Ok...so I am sure you have heard by now that there will be no bonfire this year. In case you don't know, it was not necessarily a local decision. The Supreme Court actually made a ruling this summer that would hold school districts competely liable for any injuries related to a bonfire. Now that may not seem like a big deal until you consider how many ways people could get injured...and of course, how eager our society is to sue someone. Our local officials decided it would be in the best interest of all involved to do away with the bonfire all together rather than take chances on someone getting really hurt. Now, to seniors this really seems unfair--especially since it is YOUR senior year!! Rather than fight a losing battle, though; how about if you guys come up with an alternative that would become the new tradition!?! Just think, y'all could be the ones that start something that your grand kids will be doing years from now!! You might even start a trend around the state...you know with the recent rulings there are other cities and schools that will no longer participate in this tradition. So blog about how you feel about no more bonfire...and throw out some ideas of alternatives!! Oh, and remember that ANYONE can read your posts, so KEEP THEM SCHOOL APPROPRIATE!!In light of what has happened in the last 24 hours....please pray for Justin Gannaway and his family!! If you would like to leave a special post just for him, I am sure he and his family would appreciate it. I will find out if they have access to the internet. If not, I will print these notes out and make sure they are delivered.

OMG... I'M TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT WE DON'T GET TO HAVE A BONFIRE! :(
Well I have to say that it does suck we can't have a bonfire this year or years to come.....but yes there are people who just got to ruin that for us and would try to find a reason to get money for the city, school, Goverment, etc. But really what alternative could we possibly find that would be as much fun.....

i hardcore like hate it...Since we can't do the bonfire I think we should have like a dance or something like a small party make a bigger deal
then the tailgate parties or something but i wouldn't do just nothing the bonfire was a big thing to some of us and if they just let it go like that...it would be pretty darn sad...and as for justin...may the good Lord be with him.... :s
It sucks so bad that we can't have a bonfire especially our senior year.:(... it has been tradition for years and now its gone.

i really wish we could've done the bonfire and like next year they could've took it away lol jk but it does suck cause ever since we were little we all wanted to be apart of the bonfire and now that it's our turn we can't even do it :(
I am disappointed that we don't get to have a bonfire my senior year, but i do see the reasoning that the city and school had for not allowing it.
I think that Justin needs to know that we still support him an everything.
I wish we could have the bonfire this year but it looks like that's not happening which is really really lame.... just because people don't know how to stay away from huge flames and things like that... I mean seriously why mess with fire when you know your going to get burned....I also think it's lame because were the first seniors to not get to have one... but i guess it's going to be fine.... and as for JUSTIN may god be with him to come out with a 100% recovery and be with his family and friends.

Personally I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I understand why the school can be held responsible but punishing the students for some kid's stupidity is not right.
Well this sucks no bonfire means no spirit, looks like this season is gonna be a tough one, the bonfire was a really big highlight.
It sucks that we cant keep it going but i see all reasoning for us not being able too. My idea is that we have a dance a real homecoming dance were we can bring someone that we are dating or just want them to be around. It should be in the gym. Thats my thought.
Also i want to say... Justin i hope you get well soon, and to his family i know how your feeling bc 4 years ago something similar happen to my cousin. So you all are in my prayers and i hope everything works out...

I think its really stupid, but a good decision by the school district. If you are stupid enough to run into a pile of hot coals you don't deserve to go to the bonfire anyways. You deserve to stay locked up in your house all day so you don't ruin things for everyone else

the bonfire thing sucks. i remember going my first bonfire here in childress 6th grade year. every year but one ive been. when benji was a senior...then christabel. they were pretty fun. but we should totally make up for it like have a homecoming dance thing in the gym. isnt that a usual tradition found in books and movies?
i hope justin is okay. thats pretty drastic for his family to be dealing with. my prayers are with him =]

This sucks that we can't have a bonfire cause since we were in elementary, we have all been talking about how big our own would be. Now that it's here we can't do anything for it.

IT sucks that we can't have a fire. Especially since it is our senior year. But there will be other, greater, opportunities in life.

I think the whole bonfire situation is dumb. People/kids should be smart enough to know wrong from right and messing with fire sure isn't right. The bonfire is a tradition, now its nothing.
It really sucks that we don't get to have a bonfire this year but hopefully we can be the seniors to start a new tradition!!

I to agree with basically everybody about the bonfire situation. It is not our fault that parents cannot watch their kids when there is a huge fire right in front of them. I mean come on honestly why would you let your kids run around and play near a fire. As for parents who allow their to roam free during a bon fire its their own fault!
Im bout to cry. NO BONFIRE. not cool... how bout a car fire. is that still the same thing. how bout fireworks like the fourth of july. that would be cool.
Uhh I hate how things get ruined by higher authority. I have ALWAYS looked forward to putting my name on a pile of wood and letting it burn!! I wonder what they will start banning when they run out of things to ban...breathing maybe? I think what ever kid decided to run across hot ashes just needs to be in trouble, not the rest of the nation.

I think that it is sooo retarded that we dont get to have a bonfire!...Since I was a little kid we had bonfires! Why all of sudden stop having bonfires when I AM A SENIOR! i think not having a bonfire is !@#$%^&*. i understand the local officials viewpoints but if the town doesn't have a past record of injuries then i don't see why we can't have one.
well...i dont really like being up at school anymore...too many people make me want to drop school and just graduate early. Very discouraging pretty much. lol that would be scary tho if you came to hunt me down..
